When is the Best Time to Visit Cuba?
The climate in Cuba is always warm and tropical, offering beautiful weather throughout the year. Sunshine and ocean breezes are a guarantee, no matter when you visit.

What Is the Weather Like in Cuba?
Cuba experiences two distinct seasons (wet and dry) that impact the weather, travel costs, mosquitoes, and potentially, how much fun you’ll have. The dry season runs from December to May, where you can expect sunny days with no trace of clouds in the sky, while the wet season runs from June through November.
Despite some seasonal variations in the weather, you can expect Cuba to be hot, sunny, and buggy all year round. A water bottle (with a filter) to stay hydrated, sunscreen, and bug spray are a must, regardless of the season.
To avoid surprises, let’s look at what it’s like to travel each season.
Dry Season (Peak Season)
Cuba’s peak tourist season runs from December to March. Crowds are at their heaviest, which translates to higher prices for accommodations, and the need to pre-book some items on your itinerary. Although there tends to be more precipitation, July and August are also very busy. Carnival takes place in August, so expect cities to be at their liveliest and one big street party.
December through March are also peak cruise ship months. Anywhere from 1500 – 2000 additional travelers can descend on Havana in just one day, making its streets, restaurants, and museums exceptionally busy. This makes for a less pleasurable visit. You can always plan your itinerary to avoid the day(s) that ships will be in port. This website tracks cruise ship schedules: https://www.cruisetimetables.com/havana-cuba-cruise-ship-schedule.html
Shoulder Season
Cuba’s should season runs from April to May and November. Travelers can find special deals during this season, except for Easter.
Sharing time with both the dry and wet seasons, April and May can be a mixed bag. During these months you can expect lower costs for accommodations but the chance of rainfall increases.
Wet Season (Low Season)
The wet season is when 70% of the island’s rainfall occurs and why it’s Cuba’s slowest season. Hurricane season officially begins in August, but September and October are prime hurricane months. On a positive note, you will encounter fewer tourists.
Although a little rain doesn’t sound bad, the wet season also brings the risk of flash floods and landslides. A hurricane may result in disruption of power, communications, water supplies, and potentially flights to and from Cuba. If possible, we recommend avoiding Cuba during peak hurricane season from August through October. However, Cuba has become a top travel destination, and accommodations book quickly during the dry season.
The rainy season is much less popular since it’s wetter, hotter, and more humid. However, more and more people are willing to risk unpredictable weather to see Cuba on a budget or sooner versus later. If you fall into this category, then we recommend checking into travel insurance when booking your flights.
If beautiful weather is a big priority for you, then avoid the wet season.
